Family unification is an important priority for the Government of Canada. Persons who can be sponsored in the family class include:
- A Spouse
- A Common-law partner
- A Conjugal partner
- Dependent children
- Parents
- Grandparents
- Children adopted from abroad
- Other relatives in special circumstances.
To be eligible to sponsor a family member, a person must be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident and:
- Be at least 18 years old
- Be able to provide for the basic needs of any person you are sponsoring
- Meet the minimum financial obligations required by the government of Canada.
