What is a Study Permit?
The study permit is a document issued by the government of Canada that allows foreign nationals to study in Canada. Most foreign nationals need a study permit to study in Canada.
A study permit is usually valid for the length of your study program, plus an extra 90 days. The 90 days let you prepare to leave Canada or apply to extend your stay.

Study Permit Eligibility Requirements
There are strict eligibility criteria for a Study Permit.
To apply for a study permit, you need:
- An acceptance letter from a Designated Learning Institution (DLI)
- A valid passport or travel document for at least 1 year of validity
- Proof that you have enough money to pay for your: tuition fees, living expenses for yourself and any family members who come with you to Canada, and return transportation for yourself and any family members who come with you to Canada
- You must provide a police certificate (good conduct / record) in any country you lived for more than 6 months
- You must complete an upfront medical exam with a panel of physician
- Convince an immigration officer that you have a strong ties in your country of residence and you will depart Canada at the end of your studies.
